Three Signs Your Wood Fence is Failing

Many people prefer wood fencing, and with good reason. The fences look nice, hold up to most weather and come in a variety of styles. Unfortunately, wood requires a certain amount of upkeep and wears down over time. Here are some signs that it might be time for repairs.

1.Nails on the Move

Rusty metal sticking out of a board isn’t safe to begin with, and it might indicate the wood has done a bit too much contracting and expanding. You can try replacing the nail but it might be time to replace some sections of the fence.

2. Rotting Wood

Everyone knows deteriorating wood isn’t a good sign; unfortunately it’s not always easy to spot. If a post starts to sag or lose shape, there could be bugs or some sort of parasite eating away at it from the inside. Rotting wood is a ticking time bomb and should be replaced as soon as possible.

3. Failing Earth

Sometimes the problem isn’t specific to the wood, but rather the ground below the fence. Water damage and erosion can affect stability and eventually lead to a fence collapsing.

The natural aesthetic of wooden fences requires a little extra maintenance. Check out this website to learn more about caring for your wood fence in San Marcos.
